Altos De Chavon Artist Village

The Altos De Chavon Artist Village in La Romana, Dominican Republic is a recreation of what an 15th century artist colony in Italy / Southern Spain would look like.  It was designed by designed by Robert Coppa, an Italian architect who at the time was a Paramount movie set designer.  Started in the late 70’s the complex was completed in 1982. It overlooks the Chavon river, hence the name.  The amphitheater holds 5,000 people and was inaugurated by Frank Sinatra.  The St. Stanislaus Church located on the grounds is home to many weddings.
